Starting to plan a 40th Anniversary party |
Lead | |
|
for my parents. I know the date,(Oct. 25th) time and where (Our church Fellowship Hall) I'm going to have it, now I just need ideas for decorations (that
does not include streamers!) do you guys have any? We usually do the decorating (mom and I) for all the weddings, showers, parties, etc... but I don't want
to do stuff that was her ideas in the first place for her party, kwim? So any suggestions would be great. My sil is going to help and my brother will be
chipping in on funds, but with both my kids' birthdays in Oct as well as Halloween and Christmas coming up right after that, it's not a sky's the
limit type of thing either. I just want it to be nice and elegant looking. TIA!

Chris, this website has some good ideas. Whenwe have parties, my sister is in charge of the decorations, so I'm not good at that. LOL

Thanks, Masaj! I forgot to say that it will be an "open house" party from like 1-4 where they can just come and go as they please, not a sit down
dinner type of party.

One thing we did for my daughter's wedding, was to place little baskets with pansies in them for the tables. We then told people to take them home.
Baskets were cheap at Michael's or one of those import places and the pansies at Lowe's or nursery. We also bought pots of mums and other flowers at a
supermarket and placed around the room. Much cheaper than florist flowers. Maybe you are not having food, but if you are, some tables would be nice. Candles
always look nice and add elegance. I saw Martha Stewart make a heart out of carnations once with floral foam. That would be cute or a 40 cut out of floral
foam and covered with red carnations. Just cut off stems and stick in foam. Isn't 40 the ruby anniversary? In fact, check out Martha's website. She
might have some suggestions there you could use.

I would get some old pics of them and print them out large sized and put them around the room. Cool! Do you have access to their wedding photos?
I don't think that the decorations are as important as the people who actually come to the party. That will be the most important. If you can get a really great picture of them together, blow it up, and put it in one of those signature frames (where you can sign the matting) and all of their friends can sign it, I think that they would love that! Another idea is to put all their photos on a DVD and have that playing a slideshow in the room. People can stop by to look at the photos during the party. Congratulations to your parents! They are very lucky you are throwing a party for them! Very nice!

I like Elizabeth's ideas. I actually saw those sign on picture frames at the Dollar General a few weeks ago!
If you don't have the capability or time to work up a slide show, you can do a photo board with photos of them through the years. I did an invitation for my aunt and uncle's 50th and we had their wedding photo next to a present day photo and it was neat to see how they had changed (and not changed) in 50 years. I will give this some thought and see if I have any ideas to share.
