BROOKE AND RIDGE REUNITE
(3 photos of Bridge on the beach, one is them looking at each other, the second is them lying on the sand kissing and the third is them standing next to a horse, kissing)
Brooke and Ridge return to the scene of their 1994 Malibu wedding this week, trying to reconcile two decades' worth of tumultuous history.
"It was love at first sight," sighs Katherine Kelly Lang. "They fell in love with each other the moment they saw each other at a party where Brooke was the caterer's daughter, working at Ridge's family's house. To me, that always holds a special place in your heart - your first love."
But on the heels of some raging fights about Rick and Brooke's loyalties to her son versus her lover, neither Brooke nor Ridge is feeling particularly special. "Ridge and Brooke are in the same location, unbeknownst to each other," sets up Ron Moss. "They're both reminiscing about the happy times in their relationship and their marriage, specifically. Ridge sees her and starts wanting to yell at her, but she can't hear him. They are missing signs. She's trotting away (on a horse), basically while he's standing up there (on a cliff) and there's nothing he can do. He realizes that she has come to the same place to go down memory lane."
"A lot of things have been repeated on the show, but I never thought we'd come here and do this again," admits Lang with a laugh. "They're trying to match it up a little bit, do the same shots, the same angles, so it all kind of blends back into that feeling of many years ago when Brooke and Ridge got married on the beach. There's not much dialogue. There are tears on Brooke's face. Ridge is riding his motorcycle; then he's forlorn on the cliff. It's all a setup for when they do come together, and when they do, there aren't many words. Things are spoken without being said. It's a nice coming together for Brooke and Ridge, after all the hardships that have happened lately. They're going for that old-fashioned romance," smiles Lang. So will Ridge and Brooke return to Malibu in another 14 years? "Based on the fact that we're here 21 years later and I didn't think that was going to happen, so I'm going to say, yeah, it's possible. Anything is possible," chuckles Moss.
In other words, Moss will have to dust off the motorcycle again or, "a moped," laughs the actor. "We'll both be coming down the beach on walkers and it will take us two more years to get to each other. We'll be standing right next to each other and not even know it, like, 'I always remember that girl, Brooke...'"
RICK AND STEPHANIE TEAM UP
Stephanie calls Rick on his scheme against Ridge this week, leading to a surprising partnership.
"Rick can't beat Stephanie," admits Kyle Lowder. "The reason why Stephanie has been such an awesome character over the years is because she is an incredibly intelligent woman who is very manipulative - so she sees right through Rick."
And she demands he fess up to faking his paralysis and manipulating everyone around him. "Rick is like, 'You know what? I can't fool this woman. Okay, you got me.'"
When Stephanie threatens to expose his secrets to the rest of the family, Rick quickly finds his footing. "He's like, 'Fine. Go ahead and tell people. You can tell them that I'm lying and faking, but that will just bring Brooke and Ridge closer together,'" recounts Lowder.
"They'll band together and say, 'Everybody is trying to break us up.' Rick's like, 'You don't want that to happen, Stephanie, so you just have to keep my little secret, and we'll be just fine.'"
On top of that, "He realizes that he and Stephanie have the same goal, and that is to get Ridge and Brooke apart," notes Lowder. "Once he realizes that, he looks at her and says, 'We want the same thing, so let's work together.'"
Looks like Rick's met his match!
A CLOSER LOOK: BROOKE AND RIDGE
Head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell talks about Brooke and Ridge's fateful reunion this week and how it all boils down to one thing: location, location, location!
Weekly: Tell us about Brooke and Ridge deciding to come back to Malibu 14 years later.
Bell: It's really a tale of romance. It's a time when Brooke and Ridge are trying to work it out. It's an epic time. All that's old seems to be new again. There will be soul-searching after all the ups and downs they've been through. They've come to a place where they either have to do it or it's not going to work. After a fight, they find themselves drawn to the same place in a city of 10 million. They find themselves, on the same deserted stretch of beach, thinking about a time when they were married here so many years ago. It's played with very few words. Just the fact that they're here together at the same time says it all.
Weekly: Did you consider any other spot or was Malibu "it"?
Bell: This was the spot. They were married right there. We're actually playing off that old footage. It's coming full circle. There have been other men in Brooke's life, other women in Ridge's life, but now, at this point in time, this incredible 21-year journey they've been on looks to be reaching a happy conclusion.
Weekly: Did you choose the flashbacks that will air?
Bell: Yes,
Weekly: Was there anything about them that really caught your eye?
Bell: The lighting on Kelly when she said Brooke's vows, the flowers in her hair. There were sand castles and palm trees. It really was an epic time for the show and a time worth revisiting.
Weekly: What can viewers expect this week?
Bell: Everything that is quintessentially B&B: the sun, the sea, South California and romance. They can expect what we do best - and what Ronn and Kelly do best is romance of epic proportions.
Weekly: So is this Brooke and Ridge's big reunion, forever and ever?
Bell: It appears as if this is the great reunion. There are always people who may want to get in their way. Stephanie is certainly one. Nick Marone may factor into it. But we're getting incredibly close. We're at a point where we just can't imagine they've reached this level. They've been through so much. How can this not be forever?
Weekly: In your mind, are they each other's soulmates?
Bell: So much of this series is about Brooke and Ridge, from early on until now. It's amazing that we still have Ron and Kelly, that they look so beautiful, that their chemistry has not waned at all. This is an incredible climax to this whole saga.
