Posts: 750 (12/02/08 20:14:03) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Well here's how it all unfolded, my parents never made it to Thanksgiving dinner, I host for the whole family, both were very ill, I received a call at 2:00 am on Saturday morning, my father was in the ER... we brought him home, he was there since 11:00 pm, around 4:00 am with some pain medication. He was diagnosed with a gall stone and a possible case of diverticulitis. He also has something on his pancreas, for those who have been following this, he is doing Chemo and hormone therapy for prostate cancer that has reoccurred despite surgery. He spent Saturday at home, in some pain, but by Sunday he was much worse, prompting another trip to the ER. He is having surgery tomorrow for complete gallbladder failure. He hasn't been able to eat since Friday really. My sister and I have been taking turns spending time with my parents. I put the tree up this weekend here hoping to distract the kids, who want to know when Papa can play again. The holidays are always a little sad for me b/c of my oldest daughter being gone, she'll be dead fifteen years this February, this is just a lot as well, never mind the hectic pace of the holidays. I think I am on the edge of that inevitable place we all eventually get to with our parents, and I am really not ready to be there, who is though right?! I will keep you posted!! I know things like this are never easy. Hopefully he will get some relief with the surgery. My own father passed on a year ago this past April and had been in and out of the hospital for the past few years. I remeber getting calls from my mom that they were in the er again. He had cancer and heart problems, and they just got worse. He was in his 80's so he lived a long life, but it is never easy. Anyway, I can understand what you are going thru and again I am sending prayers to you and your family for an easy surgery.

It was terrible to unfold. It was little consolation but at least I lost them early, but you still love your children especially when you torture yourself physically and sacrifice to get pregnant. What I do is celebrate the child I do have and try very hard not to dwell too much on those I lost. For me, if I would have had the twins, I would never of had Jack, and that would have been so terrible, he is such a blessing! I am so sorry you are having problems with your parents. It is so terrifying for them to get old. I noticed my father had lost weight at thanksgiving and I was concerned. His brother is dying of cancer. I know it is stupid to link cancer to weight loss, but my mother is somewhat morbid (we nickname her "Debby Downer") and actually mentioned it. I would have not ever even thought about it on my own, and now can't stop thinking of it. It is so hard to deal with our parents mortality. It is so great to have them around. It is hard to deal with the holidays on good years, the hectic pace, the changing of the weather, but to add to it the loss and then sickness of a loved one can't be easy. It's hard not to dwell on the loss of a child at this time of year, I know. You never forget, never stop loving no matter what stage of life you lost them at. Just know you are not alone and we're here if you need us.

It is extremely difficult to say the least. My dad was knocking on death's door over Thanksgiving last year and he survived to tell the tale. As long as there is life, there is hope. Hopefully once they remove the gall bladder he will improve. I will be sending positive thoughts your way to help you get through this difficult time. The holidays can be a very sad time. I'm leaving shortly to go down now with my mom and my sister, and wait with him till he goes in, looks like somewhere around 2:00 or 2:30 maybe earlier. My Uncle, my dad's brother, is coming up later today as well. He and I have a really great friendship, so I'm really happy he'll be there. Usually I'm not too bad about my daughter being gone, my children know about her, we have pictures, and they are very normal about the whole situation, of course they were born into it, but I have to say the holidays are rough around the edges sometimes. This year also would have been her freshman year of high school, one of my dearest friends has a daughter that is the same age, (so does my sister-in-law, we all had girls that year), they started high school this year, my friends daughter in the same school my daughter would have gone to. My daughter Avery is as old as her son is as well, and we of course have bonded in a very special way. I give her a lot of credit, my sister-in-law too for being able to stick by me in this really unique situation. Perhaps it in a way makes it better b/c I can at least see what she might have been like, but yet sadder b/c I also see quite clearly what I am missing all the time. Anyway... thank you for your prayers, and Elizabeth my heart goes out to you for your twins, and I hope your dad is ok. My mom sometimes hovers a bit on the "doom" side, so I understand that a little bit. I pray for you all everyday as well!! She was fine afterwards. Apparently it is an orthoscopic procedure now. They left a 6" scar on my mom when they took hers out. I am the only female person in my entire family to have a gallbladder. (Insert scary music here.) Even all of my Aunts have had theirs removed. Ak! It is a tiny time bomb. I am only hoping mine will not need to be removed until I am also 85. I figure by then, they will be teleporting them out! Elizabeth

Posts: 752 (12/04/08 07:18:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Hey everybody... my father was unable to have the surgery yesterday,his duct is blocked, but in best interest they decided to give more antibiotics and wait. I stayed with him from 11:30 to 8:30 pm, just helping out, spending time. He seems in better spirits today, and my mom just called he is cleared to go for surgery sometime around 12:30. Thank God for Gary being able to take off to be with the kids). Thank you all for the well wishes and support, it was a very long day yesterday, tests and waiting, I pray today goes smooth. To top it all off, my parents cat ran out the door when I took her home last night, and though I searched in the dark, I was unable to find her. She hasn't come home yet. Hopefully she'll be back soon, we aren't mentioning it to dad yet. Elizabeth I know what you mean, I still have to schedule a gallbladder removal myself, or at least it is recommended. UGH!! I'm no big fan of surgery, I've had way too many in my lifetime. It really means a lot to me that you are all here to talk to...thank you all so very much. I will certainly be praying for you all. I hope his surgery will be successful this afternoon. My parents are in their early 70's, but are both pretty healthy so far. I know the time is looming, but I don't like thinking about them getting ill/becoming incapacitated. But, we all have to face it, I know. I know what you mean about missing children you've lost. Yesterday was 15 years ago I lost my first baby (I've miscarried three - twins for me the second time also!). I think of him/her more on that day that any, although they are never far from my thoughts. But, like E said - I also know that if I hadn't lost those babies, I wouldn't have my son or daughter now! My thoughts are with you as you remember your precious girl. I hope the kitty comes back! Praying for that too. Keep us posted! Hugs, Jamie

I will pray for you and your dad and also the precious kitty. I am sure she knows that something is wrong and that is why she ran out. My cat Snookie is always running out. We call him "Snook-ini" Because he is like Houdini - he can get out of anything. He can even open a lot of doors. Usually they stay pretty close to home, if you can go back in the day time, you will probably find her in one of the neighbor's yards. I think she will be pretty close to home. Put some food and water out by the door. Let us know how it goes! The duct thing also happened to my grandmother. That is so weird the similarities! Elizabeth

Posts: 755 (12/04/08 20:20:32) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	What a day... my dad didn't go in for the surgery until 4:30pm, it was supposed to take an hour, but he didn't come out until 7:00pm. His gallbladder had turned gangrene, the duct was blocked and it was covered by adhesion, he had no prior problems with it, it was just one of those freak occurrences. It was close to rupture, and the removal had to be done extremely carefully by encasing it in a type of "baggie" and securing it so that it wouldn't rupture, and he wouldn't be poisoned. It will be sent to pathology. We saw pictures, the surgeon is a sweetheart, he is the man who saved my life, we formed a great friendship, he showed us. A gallbladder is supposed to be a light shade of blue similar to a surgical cap, my father's was, so as not to be graphic, no where near being blue, and was massively inflamed. I have been at the hospital all day, he didn't get back to his room till 9:00 pm. I will go down tomorrow night to see him. I have to schedule a gallbladder surgery myself, but first I must get some rest. Still no cat yet... I hope soon, she really liked my dad, and things were so crazy, I'm sure she will eventually calm down and come back. I told some of the neighbors so hopefully someone will see her!! Thank you for the prayers and well wishes!!! I do believe my parents are beginning to pay me back for all of the breathtaking moments I have given them while raising me...lol!! Seriously, praise God that he is well, and that it was caught in time... and for the medical team and "Dr. Joe"... my most favorite doctor/friend in the world!!
